Abdallah eyes Pillars resurgence after suspension

admin | April 2, 2025

Kano Pillars head coach Usman Abdallah has resumed his role as the club’s head coach ahead of their upcoming match against Heartland, following the lifting of his suspension, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Abdallah’s suspension was lifted on Tuesday after two months. The club announced on X: “All issues have now been resolved. Technical Adviser Usman Abdallah has returned after the misunderstanding with the fans and will lead the team for the remainder of the season. Welcome back, gaffer.”

Initially suspended for three weeks, Abdallah’s suspension stemmed from a gesture he made towards the fans after Kano Pillars’ 0-0 draw against Bayelsa United on February 2. The former Enyimba coach, who had questioned his suspension, clarified that all misunderstandings have now been addressed, and the club’s goal remains to finish strong in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League.

“There were a lot of misunderstandings, and we had several meetings with the management and the fans,” Abdallah told our correspondent.

During Abdallah’s absence, former player Ahmed Garba, also known as Yaro Yaro, took over as interim coach. Under Yaro’s guidance, Pillars played 10 matches, securing four wins, three draws, and three losses.

Kano Pillars are currently eighth in the league standings, with 44 points from 31 matches.

Abdallah shared his thoughts on the team’s progress: “There are players who have improved, and I am in the position to understand their roles. I trained with the team on Tuesday, contributing some insights while observing. We must ensure we perform well again, and the target remains the same. The most important thing is the team.”

Kano Pillars will face relegation-threatened Heartland in Owerri on Sunday in their next NPFL fixture.
