Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, announced on Sunday that the state government is offering free surgeries to residents across the state. This initiative aims to improve residents’ access to healthcare.
In his statement, Dr. Filani explained that the free surgical program is part of the government’s concerted efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility. He mentioned, “Enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary healthcare facilities in all wards across the state. Patients will need to provide their National Identification Number and a passport photograph during enrollment for the programme.”
He further elaborated that the outreach would be conducted across various healthcare facilities in the state and would cover a wide range of surgical needs, including Caesarian sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removals, hydrocele treatments, and other minor and major surgical procedures.
“The initiative is designed to ensure that all residents, particularly those who are underserved and financially disadvantaged, are provided with access to necessary surgical interventions without the burden of cost,” Dr. Filani stated.
He outlined the key objectives of the Free Surgical Mission: enhancing healthcare access, providing free surgical services to residents who might otherwise be unable to afford such care, improving health outcomes, and addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact quality of life and overall health.
Dr. Filani added that the surgeries would be performed at selected hospitals equipped with the necessary facilities and personnel. “To ensure safe and effective outcomes, post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that might arise,” he concluded.
