El-Rufai: I won’t react to idle talks, says Kaduna gov 17th March 2025

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed his dedication to governance, stating that his priority is to serve the citizens who elected him, rather than engage in unproductive discussions.

The governor made these remarks during an Iftar dinner with Kaduna Social Media Influencers at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Saturday.

Although he did not elaborate on the context of his comments, they followed accusations from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, who claimed that Sani was using the police to intimidate his supporters. This allegation arose after the arrest of Jafaru Sani, a former Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources under El-Rufai’s administration.

In what appeared to be a subtle response to El-Rufai’s accusations, Governor Sani stated, “My focus is on serving the people of Kaduna State who elected me. I am not concerned with unfounded and trivial discussions that contribute nothing to governance.”

Sani also highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past 22 months, particularly in agriculture, education, and security in areas previously affected by violence.

“We have made significant progress in tackling security issues in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local governments. The Birnin Gwari cattle market, which had been closed for over a decade due to security concerns, was reopened last November, and business is now flourishing,” he noted.

The governor addressed the persistent problem of water scarcity in the state, revealing that his administration declared a state of emergency in the water sector upon taking office. He reported that the capacity utilization of the water supply scheme had been below five percent but has now increased to 30%, with a goal of reaching full capacity by the end of the year.

Additionally, Governor Sani announced that his administration had resolved a salary backlog of N800 million owed to staff of the Kaduna State Water Corporation and settled electricity debts amounting to N1.3 billion. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to upgrade water supply systems across all 23 local governments in the state.

The governor expressed his appreciation to social media influencers for their role in promoting the initiatives of the state government. “I want to thank you for showcasing the achievements of our administration. We will continue to support you in your efforts to highlight the positive work of our government,” he said.

Malam Adam Garba, Chairman of the Kaduna Social Media Influencers, thanked Governor Sani for hosting the Iftar and praised his support.
