Fubara Denied Entry to Rivers Assembly Quarters
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was on Wednesday blocked from entering the official quarters of the state House of Assembly along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, where lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have been convening.
Accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, Fubara arrived to find the gate locked, preventing his access.
Speaking to reporters on site, the governor accused Speaker Martin Amaewhule of intentionally avoiding him, noting that his numerous attempts to reach the speaker by phone had been unsuccessful.
He said, “Before arriving here, I made several efforts to contact the Speaker, including sending a letter for this invitation. Unfortunately, as you can see, the gate is completely sealed, and there’s no indication that anything is going to happen today.”
The governor emphasized that his actions were motivated by the best interests of the people, reaffirming his dedication to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities.
“The reason for what we are doing is always in the interest of our people, which is the most important thing. I don’t think there’s anything to be concerned about. I expect to hear from them after today,” he concluded.
